SimpleFlying reports that the Royal Schiphol Group has taken a significant step towards sustainability by introducing autonomous airside buses at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This move is part of a broader ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing the airport's carbon footprint.

During the trial, two Ohmio self-driving buses are transporting employees across various airside locations, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback for their safety and efficiency. Jan Zekveld, Head of Innovation, highlighted that the initiative aligns with Schiphol's long-term goals to automate all ground operations sustainably.

Pioneering technologies

The trial serves as a critical component of Schiphol's strategy to replace traditional fuel-powered vehicles with environmentally friendly alternatives. By pioneering these technologies, Schiphol not only addresses the emissions challenge but also sets a benchmark for future advancements in airport operations globally, SimpleFlying reports.

Furthermore, the Royal Schiphol Group, which also manages other Dutch airports, is committed to integrating autonomous technology comprehensively, ensuring that employees adapt to more supervisory roles in this new era of transportation.
