Eindhoven Airport offers discount to quiet, low-emission aircraft
Airlines flying to Eindhoven Airport in The Netherlands will pay a lower landing and take-off fee if they fly the latest aircraft that make less noise and emit less CO₂, such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.
From April 1, 2023, it pays for airlines to operate more quiet and ‘cleaner’ aircraft at Eindhoven airport. Aviation24 reports that a lower rate also applies for airlines that fly to or from Eindhoven during the day instead of early morning or evening hours.
With its new method for calculating the so-called Sustainable Landing & Take-Off charge, Eindhoven Airport will become a leader among airports – and an active promotor of airlines to renew their fleets.
The airport has long been committed to improving air quality and reducing CO₂emissions. Many vehicles and equipment on the apron, such as pushback vehicles, baggage tractors and aircraft stairs, are already electric (instead of diesel-powered). By 2030, all diesel-powered vehicles and equipment will be replaced by electric ones. To further reduce emissions, Eindhoven Airport aims to switch to a fully sustainable energy supply.
