Air France KLM Martinair Cargo invests in more sustainable transport of pharma

Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP Cargo) and Envirotainer launch a more sustainable way to transport pharmaceuticals all over the world.

AFKLMP Cargo and Envirotainer, specialised in secure cold chain solutions for air transportation of pharmaceuticals, have a long history of cooperation. The latest development is that the airline will operate Envirotainer's new climate-controlled Releye container, that provides outstanding environmental performance, delivering up to 90% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to available passive solutions, based on life-cycle analysis.

The Loadstar reports that the Releye temperature-controlled air cargo containers are designed to meet the strictest requirements in pharmaceutical air freight. With their 170 hours of autonomy (more than one week) they will maintain the temperature and protect the cargo longer than any other available solution, without recharging. The Releye has the smallest CO₂ footprint of all solutions in the industry. This due to its low weight, large and efficient cargo space. Envirotainer's operations are 100% climate-neutral since 2020.

Also, Envirotainer will reduce the impact of the use of its containers on the environment by investing in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF offers a cleaner alternative for conventional jet fuel, as it is produced from sustainable feedstock, such as cooking oil, animal waste or solid waste from homes and businesses.
