Heinemann, has announced significant milestones in its ongoing quest for sustainability. The retail operation at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has implemented several innovative initiatives designed to reduce waste and promote eco-friendly practices.
Free water refill stations
According to the Moodie Davitt Report, one notable initiative is the elimination of plastic bottle sales in all SAR stores, replaced by free water refill stations in collaboration with Dopper, a sustainable water bottle retailer. This move aligns with SAR’s robust waste management system, which aims to achieve a zero-waste retail environment.
SAR is also prioritizing environmentally-friendly products with minimal carbon footprints. By collaborating with partners and suppliers who share its environmental values, such as creative agency Levanto, SAR ensures that its in-store fit-outs utilize eco-friendly materials like recycled plastics and bamboo. These materials not only reduce the environmental footprint but also convey SAR’s commitment to sustainability to its customers.
Signage made from sustainable resources
Customizable signage made from sustainable resources is another key element of SAR’s strategy. These signs are designed to educate and engage consumers about environmental issues, promoting the use of reusable bags, sustainable products, and locally sourced goods.
Martine de Lang, Deputy Managing Director of Schiphol Airport Retail, expressed pride in their sustainable partnerships and innovative practices. According to the Moodie Davitt Report, she emphasized SAR’s dedication to leading by example and continuously improving its operations to contribute positively to the environment and community. SAR’s efforts include introducing electronic shelf labels (ELS) to reduce paper use and enhance price accuracy.
