Schiphol Group: 10,000 new charging stations for electric vehicles
Schiphol Group is set to drastically increase the number of charging stations for electric vehicles at its various airports. A tender for the supply of 10,000 charging stations has been awarded to Ecotap and Combinatie FIMIH.
The new charging stations for electric vehicles will have been installed by 2030. According to Schiphol Group, these stations are essential to achieving the goal of emission-free airports by 2030. The electrification of all vehicles, from ground handling to hotel shuttles and everything in between, is also part of this ambition.
At Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, there are currently around 400 public EV charging stations. The main users of the charging stations are electric passenger cars. The capacity for these users will be considerably increased in the coming years thanks to this tender. The new contracts also offer the opportunity to provide charging capacity for electric lorries, buses and ground handling vehicles.
The airport monitor and control the charging facilities with Chargepoint Operator, a smart digital platform. It allows for smart management of charging facilities, and even enables vehicles to be connected to power generated by solar panels at airports. This avoids energy grid overload.
