Dutch airports receive ACI's Highest Sustainability Accreditation
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport and Rotterdam The Hague Airport have received the top sustainability accolade from ACI, making them among the first 10 airports globally to achieve this.
The certified airports, part of the Royal Schiphol Group, stand among the first 10 worldwide to achieve this recognition. ACI's Level 5 certification mandates a remarkable 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to 2010, with awarded airports achieving net-zero emissions.
Airports International reports that Wilma van Dijk, director of Rotterdam The Hague Airport, expressed pride in the recognition and emphasized a continued commitment to reducing emissions not only at the airports but across the entire aviation sector. The goal is to connect the Netherlands with the world sustainably.
The Royal Schiphol Group has stated that is will continue its commitment to sustainability, aiming for emission-free airports by 2030. Denise Pronk, head of sustainability at Royal Schiphol Group, highlighted the accreditation as a significant milestone aligned with their ambition to be the world's most sustainable airports. The focus of the Group extends beyond a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions, with ongoing efforts towards achieving emission-free airports by 2030. Initiatives include an expanding electric ground equipment fleet, reliance on Dutch wind power, and transitioning airport infrastructure away from natural gas.
