Delta Air Lines: significant progress in sustainability
Delta Air Lines has made substantial strides in 2023 towards its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The airline's initiatives include significant fuel savings, increased sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) acquisition, and advocacy for supportive SAF policies.

In its latest Environmental, Social, and Governance report, Delta Air Lines detailed its significant progress towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. According to a report by TravelPulse, the airline highlighted several key initiatives undertaken in 2023 that contribute to its sustainability goals.
Optimized flight routing
Delta's Carbon Council implemented measures that saved 21 million gallons of fuel, optimizing flight routing and reducing aircraft weight. Additionally, Delta doubled its acquisition of sustainable aviation fuel, receiving 3.5 million gallons in 2023. The airline also engaged in advocacy to promote policies incentivizing SAF production, launching the Minnesota SAF Hub to drive investment and collaboration across the SAF value chain.
Reducing the footprint
TravelPulse reports that Delta’s sustainability strategy focuses on short-, medium-, and long-term milestones, addressing what the airline flies, how it flies, and the fuel it uses. Amelia DeLuca, Delta’s Chief Sustainability Officer, highlighted the importance of these initiatives in reducing the airline’s carbon footprint.
The report also covered Delta’s equity efforts, showcasing the airline’s initiatives to increase representation of women and minorities within the company and promoting racial equity through comprehensive training programs.
