Atlanta airport: clean and renewable energy by 2035
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, one of the largest airports in the world, has announced its first carbon policy, highlighting its commitments to sustainability. The airport, home base of SkyTeam partner Delta Air Lines, is committing to achieving the City of Atlanta’s 100 per cent Clean and Renewable Energy by 2035 goal.
The airport is prepared to take big steps towards reducing its contribution to climate change. It will cut its emissions extensively by increasing energy efficiency through energy retrofits, proactive maintenance, and transitioning to all-electric building systems. The road map to 2030 and to its next goal (achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050) will be announced later in 2022.
One important step forward is partnering with Georgia Power. In this partnership, the airport uses the arbnco platform, which analyses metered energy data and provides fully costed and specific recommendations on energy conservation measures, renewable energy, and load-shedding opportunities. Through this program, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will be able to evaluate its energy baseline and to identify opportunities for efficiency resulting from energy audits of its buildings.
