Royal Schiphol Group sets target: most sustainable airports in the world by 2050

Royal Schiphol Group, the airport organisation that runs Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and several other airports in the world, has set strong sustainability targets for 2030 and 2050. In short, the group wants to operate the most sustainable airports in the world by 2050.

The airport group plans to reach its goals by focusing on four themes: circular economy, energy positive, sustainable aviation and communities. Each theme has a concrete goal.

These are the Royal Schiphol Group’s goals for 2030:

• The airports are waste and emission-free
• CO2 emissions from aviation are at 2005 levels
• The organization has improved the balance between its airports and the local communities

The goals for 2050:

• The group’s airports are circular and energy-positive
• The aviation sector is CO2 neutral
• It is pleasant to live and work in the vicinity of the Group’s airports
