The future of flying: “Do you prefer a sitting or a standing seat?”

The Italian aerospace interior design company Aviointeriors Group has launched its latest product: a seat that offers slightly more comfort than standing. The Skyrider 2.0 ‘standing seat’ was launched at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.

The seat puts passengers in a near standing position. According to the designers, the Skyrider 2.0 maintains “adequate comfort”.

Installation of the seats in aircraft also result in reduced legroom. This means that the seat pitch, which is the space between one seat and the next in front, is cut down to 23 inches. The new seats enable airlines to increase the number of passengers onboard by 20 percent, thus “increasing profits for airline companies”, as Aviointeriors Group states.

The Aviointeriors Group website claims that “Skyrider 2.0 is the new frontier of low-cost tickets and offering a possibility to fly to whom today cannot afford it.”
