Atlanta Airport on the fast track to going green

Atlanta's Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), the main hub for SkyTeam partner Delta Air Lines, is on the fast track to going green. Just as it loses its busiest global airport crown to China's Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the airport now has set its target on being the greenest.

SimpleFlying reports that the airport has committed to the City of Atlanta's 100% Clean and Renewable Energy by 2035 and the Airports Council International (ACI) Net Zero by 2050 goals.

Hartfield-Jackson has developed 2035 Sustainable Management Plan in which it presents its goals and road map. The airport focusses on three different emission sources or scopes; emissions created on site, those purchased from the energy grid and emissions that the airport has no control over, such as from airlines and tenants.

In studies in 2021, the airport has been praised for already exceeding energy and water consumption standards and building a culture of sustainability and accountability throughout the organization.
