“Would you like to pay your bill in crypto currency?”
Most business hotels accept a range of credit cards. The Al Mahra Resort by Cristal in Ras Al Khaimah (UAE) has added another method of payment: crypto currency.
The four-star hotel in the UAE allows its guests to pay for their room using Bitcoin or a similar digital currency, HotelierMiddleEast reports.
Accepting Bitcoin payments is unusual in the hotel business. There has been some controversy over cryptocurrency, as financial institutions have suggested that the value – that has been quite volatile over the past months – may have been manipulated. The CEO the Cristal Group, owner of the new hotel, focuses on the advantages of accepting cryptocurrency. "It holds tremendous potential for investors in the hospitality sector and opening to cryptocurrency will leverage its appeal among investors.”
Travellers wishing to pay with Bitcoin, will have some time left to top up their accounts. Located in the heart of Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah, the 548-room hotel is still under construction. It is expected to open by 2020.
