With its centuries-old buildings, winding stone streets, and hilltop castle Prague is one of Europe's most beautiful cities. The historic centre, parks and outlying neighbourhoods offer ways for runners to enjoy this city like you've never imagined. These two running routes will boost your running in Prague experience.
Prague’s mild weather lends itself to running year-round. The best time to run is early in the morning, before the streets are packed with tourists. Or even better: skip the height of the summer tourist season and visit the popular city in spring, fall or winter.
Historic city route
Start and finish: Wenceslas Square
Distance: appr. 8 km / 4.9 miles
This route includes Prague's most spectacular and historic landmarks like the graceful Charles Bridge, Saint Vitus Cathedral and along the Vitava River. Start at Wenceslas Square and head to the Charles Bridge. Stop for a moment and take in the beautiful view of the Vitava River. Enter Petřínské skalky, a flat park. Head north and leave the park at Vlasska street. Continue your run northwards until you see the famous Saint Vitus Cathedral. Run past the cathedral to the east and head to The Great Fürstenberg Garden. Cross the Manesuv Bridge and move south along the river until you're at Charles Bridge again. Then run back to were you started at Wenceslas Square.
Nature conservation Prokopské údolí
For a run in a natural environment head to Prokopské údolí. This natural reservation is situated in the Prague 5 district (South-western part of Prague) only 25 minutes from Prague's centre near the subway stations Jinonice and Nove Butovice. Flat asphalt roads, sandy paths and hills make this area suitable for both it is relaxed and challenging workouts. During the weekends Prokopské údolí is a very pleasant place to run. Because it's close to civilization, you can go to one side of the area and run to the other side and go back to your hotel by public transport very easily.

Prague Marathon
The Volkswagen Prague Marathon, held in May each year, has been voted one of the most beautiful marathon courses in the world. If you're a competitive runner who likes running alongside a river and meandering through the heart of a medieval capital city, then the Prague Marathon is the event for you. The race starts and finishes at the famous Old Town Square and takes you through several neighbourhoods of the wonderful city of Prague. You can also sign up for a half marathon, 10 km and 5 km race.
