Do you know where the world’s shortest scheduled flight takes you? The official list says it is the 2.7-kilometre hop from Westray to Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands, north of Scotland. The flight takes only 47 seconds, depending on the direction of the wind.

Hopping on long non-stop flights to far-off destinations may be part of your job, but have you experienced the shortest scheduled flights in the world? Distances of no more than a handful of kilometres are flow by actual airlines, with flight attendants, boarding passes and everything else that comes with professional air travel.

The list, compiled by The Telegraph, mentions a flight in Belize as number 2. The flight from Caye Chapel to Caye Caulker is no more than 3.8 kilometres and takes 2 minutes in a Cessna 208 Caravan. Number 3 takes you in 15 minutes from the island of Minami-Daito to Kita-Daito in Japan, a distance of 11.2 kilometres, in a Bombardier Dash8. Number 4: Hoolehua to Kalaupapa in Hawaii. Distance 14.1 kilometres, flight time 10 minutes in a Cessna 208B. Number 5 is between two Irish destinations: from Connemara to Inishmaan, no more than 16.7 kilometres in maximum flying time of 6 minutes in a Britten-Norman Islander.
