The best countries for vegetarian travellers
If you are a vegetarian on a business trip, you may sometimes find it hard to find veggie dishes on hotels’ and restaurants’ menus. In at least five countries you will not have any trouble at all, as they top the list of ‘The best countries for vegetarians’.
BusinessDestinations.com, that compiled the list, mentions India as the country that caters best for the vegetarian diet. If you are in to meat-free gastronomic experience, India, Sri Lanka, Italy, UK, Israel are the best travel destinations for you.
India
This is where 500 million vegetarians live. Even McDonald’s offers a vegetarian branch in this country. Try rajma (red kidney bean curry), kaali daal (black lentils) and aaloo paratha (potato paratha).
Sri Lanka
A Buddhist country, where millions of Hindus live. Definitely a top veggie destination. Top dishes: Sri Lankan jackfruit curry and Mallum leaf green salad.
Italy
Seven million Italians (12 percent of Italy’s population) are vegetarian. Plenty of veggie options, including pizza quattro formaggi and tasty risottos.
United Kingdom
London and Brighton have some of the best vegetarian restaurants in the world, like Terre à Terre and Food for Friends.
Israel
A survey revealed around one million of Israel’s eight million population does not eat meat. Traditional vegetarian delicacies include humous, baba ghanoush, falafel and vegetable salads.
