Hotels are introducing new technology that offers new comfort and service to business travellers. Many hotel chains, particularly in Asia, are conducting pilot projects to develop and enhance cool tech features that can help speed up efficiency and improve customer experience.

4Hoteliers reports about the latest developments in robot butlers, keyless entry and virtual reality-enhanced room bookings. Reporters learned about experiments in Japan, with self-parking slippers and furniture that is able to return to their designated spots after use. “Meanwhile, Andaz Singapore and Hotel New Otani in Tokyo have introduced chatbots for guests as a handy way of providing recommendations and answer any queries.”

The industry is aware of the business opportunities. Alibaba has developed facial recognition check-in for two Marriott hotels in China. Hong Kong-based Tink Labs’ created Handy Japan, a concierge-service smartphone that is being used in around 80 countries.

Some hotel companies prepare for a tech-rich future. 4Hoteliers reports that South Asia’s largest hotel chain Oyo acquired an Internet of Things firm, AblePlus, to use its technology and Artificial Intelligence in better managing its hotels and assets.
