Sydney will build second airport
Australia's largest city, Sydney, will build a second international airport. The developmental approval has been given; the $2.4 billion airport construction programme is scheduled to take off in 2016.
Sydney current airport - Kingsford Smith Airport - has been operational for 90 years and a second airport has been under consideration for more than 40 years.
The second Sydney airport will be less noise-restricted as the current airport, where flights into and out cannot take place between 11PM and 6 AM.
Kingsford Smith Airport accounts for 40% of international arrivals and 50% of international air freight each year. It is Australia's busiest airport, handling over 36 million passengers a year, and supporting 300,000-plus aircraft movements.
