Sleep tight in the air
The success of your business trip largely depends on your energy level. Travelling business class is obviously the way to go, but if your budget says ‘economy’, here are some basic tips from Dr Richard Dawood, a London-based travel health expert.
In a report in The Telegraph, dr Dawood offers these sleep tips for travellers.
- If you cannot afford business class (or economy comfort or similar), at least pay a little extra for a seat with extra legroom.
- Pick a quiet spot. Be aware that most families with small children travel in the front end of the plane. Consider a window seat, providing the opportunity to lean, in the back of the aircraft.
- Wear loose clothing to prevent your blood flow from being restricted.
- Get your buckle out. Make sure the cabin crew can see that you are buckled up. This prevents them from prodding you, to find out whether you are wearing your belt.
- Deter your neighbour from engaging in mid-flight small talk.
- Don’t drink too much caffeine-laced drinks or alcohol.
- Stay hydrated. It will help you avoid waking with a dry mouth later thanks to the air conditioning and lip balm adds another preventative barrier.
- No too much TV - the light from the screens keeps your brain awake.
- Bring a pillow.
- Bring a sleeping pill – you might need it if all this advice does not work for you.
