New revolutionary technology may offer business travellers a way to travel the world easily, solely based on secure biometric authentication. The new technology could eliminate the need for multiple security checks at airports.
SITA, a global specialist in air transport communications and information technology, is exploring the potential of new 'block chain' technology to provide travellers with a secure single token to travel through airports and across borders.
With this secure biometric authentication, passengers will be able to cross borders without having to share personal data. SITA Lab is researching how using virtual or digital passports in the form of a single secure token on mobile and wearable devices could reduce complexity, cost and liability around document checks during the passenger journey. The verifiable ‘token’ on a traveller’s mobile phone is to contain biometric and other personal data. No matter where in the world you go – any authority can simply scan your face and scan your device to verify you are an authorised traveller.
