New Orleans airport opens new $1 billion terminal
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) has just opened its long-awaited new $1 billion North Terminal. With the construction project finished, the US's fifth fastest-growing airport offers 35 new gates and - hence - extra capacity to handle flights and passengers.
The design and construction of the new North Terminal took seven years, but finally the airport has the capacity to meet the rising demand. If you look closely at the design, you may become aware that the architectural form of the terminal reflects the soft curves of the Mississippi River; the way that natural light streams into the terminal via skylights is meant to evoke the city’s tree-shaded urban markets, AirportWorld reports.
The new airport terminal features three concourses, concession program, two parking garages, aviation radar and electrical facilities, pump station, airside aprons and landside roadway systems. AirportWorld: “The terminal’s layered, open feeling, with prominent views of the airfield, makes the airport easy for travellers to navigate.”
