New aircraft design for quick boarding
Airbus Industries has patented a new aircraft cabin concept that will greatly increase the speed of boarding. The smart concept allows passengers to enter about halfway the aircraft through a set of double doors, rather than in the front or the back.
The concept is an invention of the German designer Ugur Ipek. He was inspired the shape of a 'perfecto' cigar, which is wider in the middle. Ugur Ipek created a new style of cabin with a widened middle section and double doors in the center of the aircraft with a wider aisle.
This new entry way will allow passengers to traverse to the front or rear of the craft without having to walk the entire length of the plane. Ipek believes his design will put an end to time wasted queuing down the cabin.
Boarding planes can take a long time, as people queue up at small doors to get inside the aircraft. As passengers scramble for bin space, it can back up boarding even further.
The two central doors offer a large, welcoming central point. Also, people will find it much easier to locate their seats, Ipek suggests. Aircraft designers will have to develop aircraft with wider fuselages; according to experts this is technically feasible.
