Nairobi Airport is getting back on its feet!
New temporary arrivals area has been put into service
After a fire destroyed part of the international terminal, Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was forced to handle passengers in tents. Sections of these makeshift facilities can be brought down as a new temporary Arrivals area has now been put into service.
The new temporal terminal, set up at the location where the JKIA Parking Garage is planned to be built, was put to the test this week. After the terminal successfully handled eight test run flights including wide body aircrafts, the new temporary Arrivals area is open for business. The new arrivals terminal offers a Bank, Restaurant, Forex Bureau, Operational Offices and other airport amenities.
A transit area for transiting passengers has been provided with a ventilation system installed for passenger comfort. The new terminal has a Immigration area and three Baggage belts have been installed to serve the baggage hall.
Opening the new temp Arrivals area is a first step, only weeks after the fire. More steps will follow!
