Mövenpick opens new hotel in Basra, Iraq
With IS defeated and Iraq getting back to business, the need for business hotels is increasing. Mövenpick Hotels is tapping into Iraq’s hotel market potential by opening a new, upscale property in the oil & gas region of Basra.
The new five-star Mövenpick Hotel Basra is a 152-room property that is on track to open its doors in the first quarter of 2018. The new hotel is located in the city’s commercial district of Al Baradi’yah and 25km west of Basra International Airport.
The hotel offers all facilities that a business traveler may wish for: one all-day dining and one specialty restaurant, an executive lounge and a lobby lounge. The new hotel offers meeting rooms, an indoor swimming pool, gym, and beauty salon and a retail area.
According to HotelManagement.net and Albawaba.com, the Swiss company is not the first international hotel company to establish a footprint in Iraq. Abu Dhabi-based Rotana already has three hotels in the country (Erbil Arjaan, Erbil Rotana and Karbala Rayhaan) and is expected to open its fourth in the third quarter of this year.
