Melbourne, Vienna and Vancouver: the 3 best cities to live in
Melbourne is officially the world’s most liveable city. The Australian city was awarded this title for the seventh year in a row following the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Report for 2017. Vienna and Vancouver ranked 2 and 3.
In the survey, 140 cities around the world have been researched. They are ranked according to 30 different factors that fall into five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
These are the cities that scored highest points in this year’s survey:
- Melbourne, Australia – best overall, perfect 100s in three categories: education, infrastructure, and healthcare.
- Vienna, Austria – overall score only 0.1 percentage points lower than Melbourne
- Vancouver, Canada – solid 100 percent scores on healthcare, culture and environment, and education
- Toronto, Canada – top scores in healthcare, stability, and education
- Calgary, Canada – top scores in stability, education, and healthcare
- Adelaide, Australia – top scores in both education as well as healthcare
- Perth, Australia – top scores on healthcare, education, and infrastructure
- Auckland, New Zealand – low population density, high scores on environment and health care
- Helsinki, Finland - low population density
- Hamburg, Germany – new in the top-10
