How to avoid things that make you miss your flight
What are the most common reasons why people miss their flight? And what can you do to prevent these things from happening, besides leaving for the airport on time?
Inc.com compiled a list of most common causes why people miss flights. What are the four mistakes?
1. Not accounting for travel time at the airport. This is what experts call ‘hidden travel time’. At some major airports, you may need an additional half an hour to go from the parking lot, rental car drop-off, or train station to your terminal.
2. Tight connection. Every airport has an official minimum connection time (MCT). Booking sites show itineraries with layovers longer than the MCT. If you plan an itinerary based on one-way tickets, give yourself enough time between flights to make the connection.
3. Not knowing the busiest travel times. Avoid the busy holiday seasons, like the day before Thanksgiving in the US and during summer season.
4. Missing the check-in cutoff. Airlines have specific rules for how far in advance passengers have to check in. The most common policy is 30 minutes for domestic flights and an hour for international flights. Make sure you do not miss these important deadlines.
