Hong Kong: 120 new self-bag drop systems
Hong Kong International Airport is installing one of the largest self-service bag drop projects in the world. The airport is implanting 120 new machines in a large area, in a clear attempt to improve airport efficiency.
The machines will enable passengers to self-tag their bags, speeding up the check-in and departure process for passengers and reducing handling costs for the airport, according to a report on Airport World.
While self-service machines are rapidly becoming the norm in Europe (and certainly at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol), large Asian airports are now adopting the latest baggage drop equipment. The AAHK's (Airport Authority Hong Kong) deputy director of airport operations, Vivian Cheung, said: "This new self-service solution would equip us with the necessary facilities to make our service even better, as well as matching with the global trend of self-service check-ins."
