Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, busiest airport in 2017
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta was the busiest airport in the world in 2017. Atlanta’s airport handled 103.9 million passengers last year, slightly less than the 104.1 million passengers that passed the airport in 2016.
Most of the passengers that travel via Atlanta do so on domestic flights. ‘Only’ 12 million people travelled on international flights last year; this number went up 4.8 percent.
According to AirportWorld, Atlanta also holds 2017’s world record in aircraft movements, with 879,560 operations.
With these numbers, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta remains the only airport in the world to handle over 100 million passengers a year. It was the third consecutive year that the airport managed to surpass this mark.
