Go-Jek taxi hailing expanding into South East Asia
Hailing a taxi in South East Asia has become easier, with a lot more options than before. Taxi apps have entered the market; after Uber had tried its luck in several countries, Grab and Go-Jek came. This year, Indonesian-based Go-Jek is to make its market entry in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.
Go-Jek, specialised in ride-hailing and online payment, will start its taxi offer within weeks or months. According to a report by TravelWeekly Asia, the company is currently cooperating with regulators and other stakeholders across the region in preparation for the new operations. The expansion into South East Asia is funded by well-known investors such as Google, JD.COM, Meituan and Tencent. According to Go-Jek, the expansion hopes to address the lack of consumer choices in the ride-hailing market.
