Female travellers fly cheaper

Female travellers spend their travel budget more efficient than their male counterparts. A Harvard Business Review (HBR) study found that on average, women save about $17 per trip. The female approach to travel could save a large enterprise millions per year.

Men and women travel differently. Women tend to check their bags, while men like to take most of their belongings on board as hand baggage. Women like window seats while men prefer aisle seats.

Yahoo reports that women typically buy their plane tickets two days earlier than men, resulting in an average savings of $113 per ticket. When factoring in the various route options, differences in class and disparities in what time of year the travel occurred, HBR found that women saved about $17 per trip.

The Harvard Business Review examined a database of 6.4 million flight bookings to reach their conclusion.
