Delhi hotel tax will raise rates
Business travellers are expected to pay $14 to $20 more per night in Delhi’s 4- and 5-star hotels, following the introduction of a new hotel tax.
Delhi travel agents have protested the new government hotel tax, that has been described as a “shocking tax hike on hotels”. Guests will now pay a tax of 15% on the published rates of Delhi hotels. Even when you received a discount and you are paying 50% off the published rates, you will still pay tax at the higher level.
Hotels are complaining that taxes even have to be paid on free rooms. One travel agent has stated that India’s “maverick government is oblivious to the needs of business”.
