Bunk beds and playground slides in the next Airbus
Airbus Industries is adding sleeping modules in its A330 family of airliners. In the new aircraft of the A330 product line, bunk-bed-style sleeping berths are to be fitted in the cargo area under the plane's main cabin.
BusinessInsider reports that the aircraft manufacturing company cooperates with seat designer Zodiac Aerospace. The partners also have plans for a children's play area with a playground slide, a bar, an infirmary, and a conference room.
Airbus expects the modules to be available by 2020 on its A330 family of wide-body jets. The head of Airbus' cabin and cargo program says that this approach to commercial air travel is a step change towards passenger comfort.
Airbus will make the modules available for both new aircraft but also offers to build the facilities in existing aircraft. It does not take too much effort to put the sleeping cabins, playground, bar and meeting room in, as the modules are interchangeable with regular cargo containers.
