A wi-fi hotspot device to beat data roaming costs
Staying connected is a must in business travel, but can be costly. The high cost of mobile data roaming, especially outside of the EU, is why businesses avoid using the mobile internet for connectivity. The Finnish company Uros now offers Goodspeed, a mobile wi-fi hotspot device that delivers low-cost, secure wireless internet connection.
This great new device can accommodate up to nine SIM cards, so that business travellers don’t have to keep swapping SIM cards each time they visit a new country. Uros charges a transparent daily flat rate of €5.90 for between 500MB and 1GB of data. 500MB of data is the equivalent of 100 emails, two hours of web browsing, 20 minutes of video streaming and 30 minutes of Skype calls.
According to Uros, the Goodspeed even beats local wi-fi connectivity. This is often free in coffee shops, but in many hotels wi-fi can cost upwards of € 10 per hour of € 25 per day. A device like the Goodspeed may also be a good choice for safety, as research suggests people need to be more wary of using free wi-fi hotspots, especially when sending sensitive data. Cybercrime and data theft are major issues for businesses.
