Borchardt Brasserie

Once a French delicatessen and wine merchant, Borchardt first opened its doors in 1853. While neither its delicacies nor its wine were available during communist times, it is now a chic French brasserie. Frequented by the political, cultural, media and business elite.

Hotel Adlon

Opened in 1907 having cost 20 Million Gold Marks to build Hotel Adlon survived the bombs and shelling of WWII but was largely destroyed by a fire that started in its wine cellar in May of 1945. The current Hotel Adlon was build in the style of the original hotel and was opened in 1997, complete with coffered ceilings and stained-glass domes.

Burgermeister

While the Burgermeister’s history is somewhat less illustrious, it is none the less interesting. Hidden under an elevated section of Berlin’s S-Bahn, (a rapid transport railway) this ornate eatery used to be a toilet. Its burgers are said to be the best in Berlin and the Chili Cheese Fries and homemade dip sauces are close to legendary.

Judische Madchenschule

The former Jewish girls' school has been transformed into a contemporary art centre housing every  Weimar-style restaurant and a the Kosher Classroom with its hosts a four-course Shabbat dinner. The centre’s four floors of galleries and beautify restored architecture make for a welcome break after a busy day away from home.

The Grand

What used to be a 19th-century community school for under privileged children, is now a restaurant and bar. This stylized setting with modern leather couches set against bare plaster and brick walls is clearly reflected in the stylish clothes worn by its customers.

Das Stue

The former Royal Danish Embassy, damaged by bombing in 1943, now houses a  luxury boutique hotel that offers spectacular views over the Berlin Zoo, and a Michelin starred restaurant.
