$5 billion investment in Miami International Airport
Miami International Airport will get a $5 billion makeover. After receiving government approval for the major project, the airport will upgrade several important infrastructure elements in the next 5-15 years.
According to a report by BusinessTravellers, the construction work will prepare the airport for anticipated growth that includes an estimated 77 million annual travellers by 2040. In 2018, 45 million passengers used the airport, including 21.8 million international travellers.
The project includes redeveloping the Central Terminal’s concourses E and F; expanding the South Terminal’s concourses H and J; renovating Concourse D’s gates to accommodate more wide- and narrow-body aircraft and larger regional jets; adding two new hotels, including one with a business and conference centre with exhibition space; and expanding aircraft parking positions and warehouses for cargo operations.
