Manchester airport building pit: €1.1 billion project
Manchester Airport has been a construction site for over a year now, with building cranes dominating its skyline. A €1.1 billion building project is to enlarge its Terminal 2 by 150 per cent, enabling the airport to handle more passengers than ever.
The terminal expansion is the biggest investment project in Manchester Airport’s history.
At the peak of the project it is expected that nearly 1,500 people will be working on the site.
The first pier, 216 metres long, is set to open to passengers in April 2019. The terminal extension is on course to open in 2020.
To enable the new pier and terminal extension to be constructed, the apron has been extended to the west. This year the construction of a new taxiway started, increasing the capacity of existing taxiways and new aircraft stands.
