SkyTeam opens sustainable lounge in Sydney
SkyTeam has opened a redesigned lounge at Sydney Airport, with a strong focus on sustainability. For the new look of the premium lounge at Australia's gateway airport, the designers used sustainable materials, and eliminated single-use items. Also, the chef serves locally and sustainably sourced food.
Simple Flying reports that the SkyTeam lounge caters to Elite Plus, First and Business Class customers traveling with a partner airline. The redesigned lounge is strongly focusing on sustainability, well-being and passenger amenity. The lounge offers a calming space, with an abundance of greenery, natural timber and soft hues, making it ideal for relaxing before a long-haul flight across the Pacific Ocean or up to Asia and beyond.
The lounge, passengers can enjoy the comfort of 149 seats and ottomans, that offer floor-to-ceiling views of the main runway. The ottomans are upholstered using GREENGUARD-certified material to reduce landfill waste. The lounge offers a dedicated business area where travelers can get some work done before boarding.
To make the lounge more ‘green’, the designers have eliminating single-use items such as straws and stirrers, installing water-saving cisterns and showerheads, and energy-saving movement sensors. The chef of the lounge uses locally and sustainably sourced produce to reduce food miles, with procedures in place to minimize food waste.
