Schiphol's ambition is for all its own buildings at the airport to be off the gas grid by 2030. The airport has been working for years to operate in a more sustainable way. The construction of this new high-voltage substation contributes to Schiphol’s ambition to phase out the use of gas in terminals 1 & 2.

The construction will not have a standard layout. The facility will be fitted into its surroundings by covering it with a green dome on which a mix of trees, shrubs and herbs will grow. As a result, the station will blend into its surroundings and provide space for biodiversity and nature.
