A more sustainable trip? Fly new aircraft

Individual travellers can do a lot to make their CO2 footprint smaller. One of the things they can do is choose airlines that offer flights on the latest aircraft that use (far) less fuel.

The advice comes from Business Traveller, in a story titled ‘Here's how to make your next trip more sustainable, according to experts.’ Choosing airlines that fly the newest aircraft is sensible because these planes are very fuel-efficient, like the Airbus’ A320neo.

Business Traveller quotes Sanchali Pal, founder and CEO of Commons, an app that allows for tracking and offsetting one’s carbon emissions: “Simple steps like flying direct, flying economy, and picking newer planes can reduce the impact of a specific trip up to 45%.”

There is a limit to lowering the footprint at this point in time, the story goes on. “Start-ups and engineers are laboring to power planes with batteries and hydrogen. And airlines are adopting newer, more efficient aircraft, but at the moment fully carbon-neutral travel is non-existent.”
