The US and Kenya have agreed to build a superhighway from Nairobi to Mombasa. The project, known as the Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway project would link Kenya’s capital with second city Mombasa, a major Indian Ocean port.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and US President Donald Trump reached an agreement about the new road project as they met in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington. Part of the deal is that the Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway road is to be built by US construction firm Bechtel.
BusinessLive reports that the two presidents expressed their support for closer economic co-operation. According to a White House statement, this cooperation is "aimed at making their nations stronger and their citizens more prosperous.”
According to the statement, the two countries have closed deals for early $900m in other commercial deals and engagements announced during the visit.
